A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of Delaware Duplex Community was held in Joplin, Missouri, on Tuesday, October 16. The brand new community is the first housing development to be completed with state tax credits since the May 2011 tornado.
City and state officials gathered at the community located on Delaware and Maryland, south of 20th street, to celebrate the grand opening. The guest speaker for the event was Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, head of the Missouri Housing Development Commission, which granted the tax credit financing for the affordable housing project.
Upon completion, Delaware Duplex Community will offer 20 affordable housing units with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Each home is also complete with a tornado safe room, providing security and peace of mind for all residents. With the state tax credit support, the duplexes will be available for $425 per month, making the community an affordable option for Joplin residents.
The community was developed by Parker Development of Joplin with equity provided by Affordable Equity Partners of Columbia, Missouri. The property is managed by Fairway Management, Inc. and is actively leasing. Certain income restrictions do apply.
