The Bear Award

Created in 2015, The Bear Award is presented to an employee at JES Holdings who has made a significant contribution to the company which has resulted in an ongoing financial gain.

At the Employee Recognition and Staff Meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2015, Robert Muchow was recognized as the first Bear Award recipient. Robert, an Accounting Manager with Affordable Equity Partners, has been with the company since 2002. Robert was nominated for this award for his contribution to drafting the HB613 amendment that was passed and signed into law by Governor Jay Nixon this past year. After Missouri Assessors made the decision to value LIHTC properties the same as market rate properties for the 2015 assessment cycle, the resulting increase in property tax was going to have a detrimental effect on LIHTC properties. Muchow and the team realized they needed to pass an amendment to assure the properties were given a fair assessment using the NOI approach (actual income and expenses), so he worked with the company’s attorneys to draft the aforementioned amendment.

On winning the award, Robert states, “It was nice to be recognized by the executive team for a job well done. It was a team effort so I was very surprised when it was announced that I had won. I am very thankful and appreciative.”
