The seventeenth annual Rootin’ Tootin’ Chili Cookoff benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbia
Columbia, Missouri is home to hundreds of Ukrainian refugees who have been displaced from their home countries. In most cases, these refugees arrive in their new home without any possessions. The City of Refuge, a non-profit organization created to help refugees and immigrants recover and regain control of their lives, is a source of daily necessities for many of these refugee families.
The Village at Bedford Walk, a luxury senior living community, has an active group of residents that supports local charities in Columbia, Missouri. The group, called The Bedford Big Hearts, donates items and money to a new organization each month, and even spends some time volunteering if they can. The program has already done some amazing work for charities like First Chance for Children, where residents donated over 1,000 diapers for kids in need. As you can see, the participation and spirits are high among residents as they work to make a difference in the Columbia community.
Ashton Village, a Fairway Management family community located in Pevely, Missouri, recently celebrated the grand opening of the Care Closet. This new program was created to help residents who may find themselves struggling to afford food, hygiene products or cleaning supplies. Residents can visit the closet to pick up basic necessities completely free of charge at any time of day, making these products much more accessible. As you can see, the closet is fully stocked with anything and everything the residents might need!
The annual Rootin’ Tootin’ Chili Cookoff benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbia had its sixteenth annual cookoff on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Every year, companies from around Columbia, Missouri compete to see who can make the best chili and raise the most money for the organization.
During February, Ironton Estates residents and staff wore red to help raise awareness for American Heart Month.
American Heart Month occurs every February, and it is a time that works to bring people’s focus to their cardiovascular health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, so this month is an important time to refocus on your health and work to prevent heart disease. We are so proud of our Fairway Management Western region, who raised $320 for Noyes Home for Children just in time for Christmas! The organization gives infants and children a safe place to call “home” and is a vital part of the community in St. Joseph, Missouri. With this generous donation, the Noyes Home will have a greater ability to nurture and empower the youth that stay there, and maybe even spread some holiday cheer! Way to go, Western region team!
At the end of October, Ironton Estates showed their support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a “Pink Out for the Cure” day. On this day, Ironton Estates residents and staff members wore pink to help raise awareness of the impact of breast cancer.
