2011 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

For the first time, ten JES Holdings Striders participated in The Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, October 9th, at Stephen’s Lake Park. The Striders walked in Memory of Norma Smith, Jeffrey Smith’s mother, who was affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The entire fundraiser raised over $40,000, the Striders raised over $600. Fundraisers held the week prior to the race included shirt sales, jean day, and treat trolley.

Today, an estimated 5.4 million people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease in the United States alone. The disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the country and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.

Since 1989, millions of Americans have participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk. The Alzheimer’s Association has extended the fundraising efforts by hosting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
