Parkview Place Apartments is a senior community located in St. Louis, Missouri. This April, Lexi Roemer, Social Service Coordinator for the community helped coordinate a walking club. The first walk was a great success with a few residents joining who do not typically attend social activities. Lexi stated, “It was nice to have new faces and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I am very excited for this program to grow!” The community will be providing participating residents with water bottles and pedometers.
Walking clubs offer senior citizens a simple, free way to better health and fitness. According to the Harvard Health Publication, a recent trial, involving more than 1,600 men and women between the ages of 70 and 89, showed that those who exercised were 28% less likely to become disabled. Walking can help seniors extend healthy, active, independent years.
