JES Proud to Support Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure®

Columbia, MO (October 12, 2013) – JES Holdings employees have participated in the Race for the Cure for the past three years and have raised over $1,500 through office fundraisers to support the cause. Eight employees, including three runners and five participants who walked, participated in the 2013 5K race through downtown Columbia and the University of Missouri campus.

Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Affiliate, established in Columbia, Missouri in 2006, has granted nearly $1 million to surrounding areas for breast cancer education, screenings and treatments. Last year, grantees reported reaching over 75,000 people. Funds will also enable the expansion of Komen’s national breast care helpline, provide treatment assistance, and support special initiatives for vulnerable populations.

According to research made possible by Komen, access to good care and a lack of health insurance make it more likely women of some ethnic groups and those with low income will be diagnosed at more advanced stages.  Efforts to improve breast cancer screening rates among women with low income and those who lack insurance, by addressing the barriers to screening, may help improve breast cancer survival.

JES has been active with the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program since inception in 1986, a program that provides critical financing to build affordable rental housing for families and seniors. Our support of Komen is an example of JES’ efforts to provide enduring value and an enhanced quality of life to every community we serve.
